Manage your Weight Without Going to the Gym!

What if we told you that managing your weight had nothing to do with going to the gym!?

Whilst most people believe to lose weight and manage their weight they need to do tedious hours in the gym which they don’t enjoy.

You can achieve physical changes and manage your weight outside the gym!

Did you know that activities such as walking, gardening, cooking, shopping and using the stairs are just as effective as the gym!

These activities are known as ‘Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis’ otherwise none as NEAT. This movement can make up to 63% of your day!

NEAT is the fancy name to describe the calories burnt from all movement you do during the day that isn’t exercise.

How to use NEAT for weight loss

  1. Create a list of your general activities i.e getting ready for work, unloading the dishwasher, walking the dog, commuting to work.
  2. Identify parts of your day where you find yourself sitting for long durations and think of ways you could perform these in standing i.e stand up desk.
  3. Try to implement some of these new ideas, perhaps starting with 1 a week before gradually implementing all new habits.

Exercise is often not enough for weight loss

Do not get us wrong, we are not saying exercise doesn’t have its place. Exercise is hugely important for overall health and building strong and resilient bodies, with an endless list of benefits!

Exercise alone is generally not enough to lose weight. With our busy schedules we are unable to devote all our time in the gym.

We need to change our way of thinking about our approach to burning calories by using our whole day to do this! Reduce the amount of time you spend the day in sedentary positions and move more!
